On this day – 17th April 1937

17th April – On this day in 1937 Scotland defeated England at Hampden Park in front of a then world record crowd of 149,415.

Despite being 1-0 down at half time, second half goals from Frank O’Donnell and Bob McPhail (2) secured victory.

Celtic FC and Scotland National Team legend Jimmy Delaney played in this game and seven days later he was back at Hampden to lift the Scottish Cup in front of another record breaking crowd of 147,365! The latter attendance was a then world record for a club match or national cup final.
